Inspectors identified a critical issue: a required 1-hour fire-rated wall assembly had been compromised. The gypsum wall terminated at the bottom flange of a structural steel I-beam, leaving the beam unprotected and breaking the continuity of the fire-resistance barrier. The result was immediate: a failed inspection at the worst possible time. At this stage, traditional solutions weren’t practical. Rebuilding the wall to fully encase the steel would have meant tearing into completed work, navigating limited access, and introducing costly delays.
