GFS Certified Intumescent Coating Applications are less expensive than other construction solutions, and spray applications allow for projects to be completed in less time. Intumescent Coatings can be used to create a fire-retardant and fire-resistant barrier for a wide range of materials.
Intumescent Coatings are applied similarly to a paint, by either rolling, brushing, or spraying. The products we use are water-based and non-toxic so there is no health risk or special protection needed. As few as two coats can create the necessary fire-rating to meet or exceed the building codes for your project.
When exposed to fire our expertly applied and certified Intumescent Coating applications expand by a factor of 50 to 70 times their original thickness. This generates an ash-like char layer that provides thermal insulation to the material beneath the coating. The char layer is considerably more effective than traditional insulating and fireproofing materials in minimizing the exposure of the underlying substrate to temperatures that would allow for further combustion.
At Global Fireproof Solutions we have the ability and know-how to use Intumescent Coatings in a variety of buildings and structures, from residential structures to industrial and business buildings. For buildings that have already been constructed, an intumescent coating offers a method of achieving a fire-rated assembly with minimal disruption to the existing occupants of the building. Application is both quick and easy. Once applied by our expert applicators the coating can dry to the touch within 1 to 2 hours to allow for use and occupancy. The total cure time for peak fire protection performance for most intumescent coatings can take from 7 to 14 days.
When using structural steel as a design element there is no comparison. Upon request we can top-coat the intumescent application with a water-based or solvent-based paint to achieve a seamless finish in any color, and because the coating can be applied directly onto original surfaces it is the perfect choice for protecting and preserving historical structures against fire damage.
The thin, paint-like finish means no more chipping or scraping away bulky fireproofing to install hangers prior to installation of conduit, sprinkler piping, or other applications.
Test Accreditations: Global Fireproof Solutions' preferred Intumescent Coating for Structural Steel is FireGuard E-84, which is Class A rated and was tested successfully in accordance with the standards established by:
Methods of Application: Applications are generally performed with a commercial grade airless sprayer. The products are non-toxic and low VOC.
Dry Time: Typically between 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the ambient temperature and relative humidity conditions.
